Step 1 of 5

How tall is your ceiling (in feet)?

The height determines which fixture type is best. Low ceilings use shop lights; high ceilings need high-output bays.

Step 2 of 5

What is the shape of your space?

L-shaped and irregular spaces need more fixtures to eliminate dark spots around corners.

Step 3 of 5

What is the total square footage?

Enter your total area, or provide length × width and we'll calculate it.

About Our Commercial Lighting Calculator

Our calculator factors in space size, ceiling height, building shape, and environmental conditions to determine exactly how many fixtures you need — with multiple options to fit your budget and preferences.

💡 How the Calculator Works

We use IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) recommended foot-candle levels, targeting a minimum of 80 foot-candles at the work surface. Combined with your square footage and ceiling height, we calculate how many fixtures you need. Higher-output fixtures mean fewer units — often saving on total project cost and installation labor.

Target: 80+ Foot-Candles at Work Surface

🇺🇸 Made in USA vs North America

PrimeLights offers fixtures in two tiers: Made in USA fixtures are fully manufactured domestically, while Made in North America Gen 2.0 fixtures are designed in Texas and assembled in Mexico with higher-efficiency 180 LPW tubes.

Both lines carry the same 5-year warranty, UL/ETL/CSA certifications, and free shipping.

🌧️ Wet & Dusty Environments

Spaces exposed to moisture or heavy dust need vapor-tight fixtures rated IP65+. PrimeLights' Hawkeye™ line and Round Bay™ UFO fixtures are purpose-built for car washes, food processing, barns, and other harsh environments.

📏 Lumens & Foot-Candles

Lumens measure total light output. Foot-candles measure how much light reaches a surface. Foot-candles drop as ceiling height increases, which is why taller ceilings need higher-output fixtures. We target a minimum of 80 foot-candles for bright, productive workspaces.

🔌 LED vs. Traditional Lighting

LED saves 50–75% on energy vs fluorescent/HID with brighter, more uniform light. LEDs last 50,000+ hours, turn on instantly, produce little heat, and contain no mercury.
